A retired Brigadier General with 30 years of service in the United States Air Force (USAF), Born served two terms as the Dean of the Faculty at the USAF Academy where she was also the Head of the Behavioral Sciences and Leadership department. For almost a decade, she was responsible for 600 faculty members and 150 support staff in addition to several support agencies and a $350M annual budget.
Born has received numerous honors including Secretary of the Air Force’s Eugene M. Zuckert Award for Outstanding Management Achievement, the Air Force Association’s Hoyt S. Vandenberg Award for outstanding contributions to Aerospace education, the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal, and the Legion of Merit and Defense Meritorious Service Medal. She has been honored with Harvard Kennedy School’s annual teaching award
Currently, Born serves as a Trustee on the USAF Academy’s Falcon Foundation, and as the supporting director on the Academy’s Endowment Board. She is also the past President and Board Chair of the Massachusetts Women’s Forum, a 15 member Board of Directors representing 207 member organizations with female leadership in various industries.
Born earned her bachelor’s degree with distinction in behavioral science and leadership from the United States Air Force Academy, a master’s degree in experimental psychology from Trinity University and a second master’s degree in research psychology from University of Melbourne in Australia. Born holds a Ph.D. in industrial and organizational psychology from Penn State University, where she received the university’s Alumni Fellow Award in 2012 and Distinguished Alumni Award in 2018. She was also awarded an honorary doctorate from Simmons College in Humane Administration in 2007.
