Joyce Barden is a senior professor at DeVry University in the College of Business and Management where she teaches courses in the areas of accounting, auditing, management and marketing. Her specialties are in accountancy, audit, fraud and forensic accountancy.
Ms. Barden has over 15 years of experience teaching both graduate and undergraduate level classes in financial accounting and auditing at DeVry University and Keller Graduate School of Management. Inclusive of that has been the development of fraud and forensic related classes for the graduate level. Joyce has 20 years of professional accounting, auditing and operations experience with major corporations such as AT&T, Honeywell and Sperry Corporation.
Ms. Barden has been the recipient of numerous awards including the Ron Taylor Award for TEACH Values, the PRIDE of DeVry University Award and the DeVry University Professor of the Year Award. She is an active member of the Arizona Society of CPA’s, American Institute of CPA’s, American Society of Women Accountants, American Accounting Association, Association of Certified Fraud Examiners and the Association of Business Professionals.
Ms. Barden holds a bachelor’s of science in business administration from the University of Phoenix and a master’s of business administration from Keller Graduate School of Management.
- In the field of accounting she sees the movement from U.S. GAAP to International Standards is the biggest change in the field and will be for the next 5+ years. In addition, the continued reality of fraud in the workplace and the need for forensic accounting skills.
- Believes that in order for those in the accounting field to stay current, they must keep up with the convergence of U.S. GAAP to International Financial Reporting Standards so they can stay competitive in this global environment.
