DeVry University's HerWorld Program Featured in the South Florida Times


15th HerWorld event provides Olympic sized inspiration

Young women from Miami-Dade and Broward County high schools attended DeVry University's HerWorld event at the Miramar Cultural Arts Center in Miramar on March 28.

Now in its 15th year, DeVry's HerWorld program provides young women with the tools they need to prepare for college and to achieve their career aspirations.

Participating high schools included Miami Northwestern Senior High School, Hialeah Gardens Senior High, Miami Norland High, North Miami Senior High, Miami Senior High, North Miami Beach Senior High, Lanier-James Education Center, Miramar High, Hallandale High, Taravella High amd McArthur High.

During the event, high school students learned about science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) career fields and were encouraged to reach their full potential.

Additionally, the students participated in a robotics workshop that provided a hands-on learning experience utilizing technology.

The young women also heard from U.S. Olympic soccer champion Mia Hamm, who shared an inspirational story about the important role dedication and persistence played in following her dreams. Hamm was joined by U.S. Olympic kayaking hopeful Dr. Sarah E. Messiah, who provided advice for achieving education and career goals.
