Title: Associate Provost of Teaching and Learning, DeVry University

John Dunbar, Ph.D., is the associate provost of teaching and learning at DeVry University. In this role, Dunbar provides academic leadership to foster a culture of excellence in teaching that drives an engaging classroom learning environment. 

Dunbar has more than 30 years of academic and faculty leadership experience at DeVry University. Prior to his role as associate provost, Dunbar held various positions including dean of academic services and dean of electronics at DeVry University’s Atlanta campus and campus dean at the Alpharetta, Georgia campus. Most recently, Dunbar served as the group dean of academic excellence, where he advanced academics for the university’s metro locations in the eastern region.

Dunbar has participated in many campus initiatives, including overseeing quality measures and talent development within the student population of the DeVry’s Atlanta campus, as well as developing and implementing the academic strategic plan. In 2015, Dunbar earned the prestigious DVG Academic Excellence Award at the 2015 TEACH Summit for his service to students, faculty and colleagues across DeVry University. He has also served as a member of the North Fulton County Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership North Fulton program including Chair for the Education Committee 2004-2005.

Dunbar holds a doctorate in education leadership and human resource studies from Colorado State University in Fort Collins, a master’s in business administration with a minor in computer information systems from Georgia State University in Atlanta and a bachelor’s degree in electronics engineering technology from DeVry University in Atlanta.
